New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party has consolidated its position as the largest party in the Rajya Sabha after biennial elections to 59 seats in the Upper House. It has now widened the gap between it and the opposition Congress. 

For the 59 Rajya Sabha seats to be filled, 33 candidates from 10 states were declared elected unopposed on March 15 with the BJP accounting for 16 of them. It won 12 of the remaining 26 seats at stake in the polls held in seven states yesterday. 

After declaration of the results late night Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that he was thankful to all those who supported BJP candidates. Addressing media persons Mr Yogi said this is a major victory for the party in the state. 

New Delhi: The BJP Parliamentary Party met at the party's headquarters in New Delhi on Friday evening. 

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah, party veteran L K Advani and senior leaders including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley. 

Party's MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha also attended the meeting.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today set aside the Centre's notification disqualifying 20 AAP MLAs in the office-of-profit case.

The bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Chander Shekhar remanded the plea of AAP MLAs back to the Election Commission which will hear it afresh.

Terming the Election Commission's recommendation on disqualification as vitiated, the bench said, there was a violation of natural justice and no oral hearing was given to the MLAs before disqualifying them as legislators of the Delhi Assembly.

New Delhi: The government has decided to declare 2018 as 'National Year of Millets to boost the cultivation of millets like ragi and jowar on a mission mode to achieve nutritional security. 

This was stated by Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh while addressing MPs in a consultative committee meeting in New Delhi o Thursday.

The Minister said millet cultivation has declined due to change in dietary habits and unavailability of millets. As a result of this, level of nutrients like proteins, Vitamin-A, iron and iodine fell in women and children.
