India, China Economic Group meeting to be held in New Delhi

New Delhi: India and China Economic Group meeting will be held in New Delhi today. Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu and his Chinese counterpart Zhong Shan and senior officials of both countries would deliberate upon ways to boost trade and reduce trade deficit. 

The meeting assumes significance as India has time and again raised the issue of heavy trade imbalance with China and sought steps to facilitate Indian exports in areas including pharmaceutical and agricultural products and information technology services. 

Investment related issues are also likely to come up for discussion besides market access matters and other non-trade barriers.

20 children taken into UK state care over parents' ISIS links

New Delhi: In UK, as many as 20 children, including a one-year-old boy, have been taken into state care over their parents' alleged links with the Islamic State terrorist network. 

A media report on Sunday said, the children were placed in foster care or with relatives and in some cases reunited with their families only on condition that the parents wear an electronic tag to deter them from fleeing to Syria. 

The Sunday Times' investigation focuses on British youngsters who have been exposed to extremism by their families.

Madhavpur Mela Begins In Gujarat Today

New Delhi: The famous Madhavpur Mela begins at Madhavpur Ghed of Porbandar district in Gujarat on Sunday. In a unique initiative, the four-day long Mela will see its first-ever cultural integration with the North-East with which it is said to share its roots.

Briefing media in New Delhi on saturday, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said, Madhavpur in Gujarat has its historical identity as a place where Lord Krisha married Rukmini. He said, the Madhavpur Mela of Gujarat shares its connect to the Mishmi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The Mishmi Tribe traces its ancestry to the legendary King Bhishmak and through him to his daughter Rukmini. 

The Minister said, the festival will unite the North Eastern States with Gujarat depicting Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat

Mr Sharma said, the festival will see a vibrant cultural trail of art, dance, music, poetry, story-telling and folk drama from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and other North-Eastern States with the aim to integrate the rich cultures of the two regions.

RLD & Nishad Party Expel MLAs For Voting Against Party Directives RS Polls

New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh, the RLD and the Nishad Party has expelled their MLAs for voting against party directives in the just concluded Rajya Sabha polls. RLD Chief Ajit Singh expelled his lone MLA in the UP Assembly Sahender Singh Chauhan. 

NISHAD Party President Sanjay Nishad has expelled MLA Vijay Misra from the party. MLA Sahendra Singh's vote was reportedly declared invalid as he had cast it in favour of two candidates. Mr Mishra is the only MLA of the NISHAD Party and he voted in favour of the BJP during the Rajya Sabha polls.

Teaching And Learning Of Telugu Compulsory Now In Telangana

New Delhi: The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday passed a bill making teaching and learning Telugu compulsory in the state. The Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act, 2018 was supported by all parties, including BJP, TDP, AIMIM and CPI(M). 

According to the Act, Telugu shall be taught as a compulsory subject from Classes 1 to 10 in all schools, commencing from the academic year, 2018-19 in a phased manner. It said the schools affiliated to the CBSE, ICSE, IB or Cambridge Boards in Telangana shall implement the Telugu language as provided in the Act.
