Bhagwat Suggests Niti Ayog To Adopt Different Yardstick To Measures India’s Growth

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: RashtriyaSwayamsevakSangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has suggested that NitiAayog can come up with a concept to measure growth in India based on parameters exclusive to the economic personality of the country. He believes that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is not the reflection of economic performance of India with it being an alien concept and also Air India should be sold only to an Indian company.
Speaking about long-term perspectives for the Indian economy and economic policies at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in Mumbai, Bhagwat said, “There are countries that have rejected the concept of GDP. Bhutan uses a happiness index. In the Indian scenario that may not be suitable, so we can come up with our own index for measuring growth.”

The original plan was to do this gradually over a two year period. The government has been under pressure from opposition parties over the seeming rot in the banking system -- including bad loans (which the National Democratic Alliance has pointed out, largely stems from loans issued during the previous United Progressive Alliance era), and frauds.
