in DNDQuick

New Delhi: In an affidavit filed before Justice S Vaidyanathan, hearing a petition by a woman who claimed herself to be the biological daughter of J Jayalalithaa, the Apollo Hospitals informed the Madras High Court that it does not have the biological samples of Jayalalithaa collected during her treatment in 2016. The hospital said all the collected samples had been used up completely during her treatment period.

It said Jayalalithaa's condition was challenging to treat due to multiple co-morbidities and in view of this all biological samples collected from her were used to run a battery of tests to rule out and/or confirm various medical conditions.

SC May Shift Kathua Gang Rape To Somewhere Else

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has indicated that it might shift the case of eight-year-old girl’s gang rape and murder out of Jammu’s Kathua if it feels that a fair trial of the suspects is not possible there.
“Fair trial is the consideration and we are concerned with the interest of the victim and accused. If we find the slightest possibility of a lack of a fair trial, we will transfer the case out of Kathua,” a bench led by Chief Justice DipakMisra said.

The assurance was held out when senior advocate Indira Jaising opposed the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association’s claim that its members had never prevented Deepika Singh Rajawat, lawyer for the victim’s family, from appearing in HC.

Rajasthan BJP Divided Over Likely Appointment Of Shekhawat As Party Chief

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Fissure appeared in the Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party with the likely appointment of Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to the post of Rajasthan party chief. A section of Rajasthan politicians has expressed their reservations in this regard. Shekhawat and Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal were being considered as the front runners for the post ever since Ashok Parnami resigned a week ago.

The row has also highlighted chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s uncomfortable relationship with the party’s central leadership, with her loyalists camping at Rajasthan House in New Delhi to push for a “suitable” candidate. Hectic lobbying is underway in both Jaipur and Delhi, with BJP chief Amit Shah expected to take a final decision in a day or two. Parliamentarians from Rajasthan are believed to have advised Shah to appoint someone who would be acceptable to everybody.

Maharashtra Govt Unveils 2034 Development Plan For Mumbai

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: With infusion of new developable land and increasing the FSI (Floor Space Index) in the island city up to 3 for residential properties are the major takeaways of the revised development plan, which will be the blueprint for the city's land use over the next 16 years. The Maharashtra government has unveiled the much-awaited Development Plan (DP) 2034 for Mumbai, paving the way for the space-starved city to have more land available to build homes and commercial spaces.

FSI is the ratio of the total built-up area to the total area of a plot. It is basically a tool that defines the extent of construction permissible on a plot. In the new DP, the FSI for commercial properties is raised up to 5 in the island city from earlier 1.33. For suburbs, new FSI will be up to 2.5 and 5 for residential and commercial properties, respectively. The existing FSI for the two categories is 2 and 2.5, respectively.
