Shiv Sena Demands Bharat Ratna For Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Shiv Sena takes a dig on the NDA government by saying that it has put up pictures of Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder DeendayalUpadhyaya in offices and buildings across the country, but had no space for Savarkar. Shiv Sena parliamentarian Sanjay Raut said if the BJP-led NDA dispensation at the Centre had "pure Hindu blood" in its veins, it should confer the Bharat Ratna on late Hindutva icon V D Savarkar.

"This current government should announce the Bharat Ratna for Savarkar, if it has pure Hindu blood in it... Otherwise it (the government) should declare that its Hindutva is only for politics," Raut said in an article in 'Utsav', a supplement that appears with the Sunday edition of party mouthpiece 'Saamana'. The Shiv Sena is a constituent of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Mamata Banerjee Accuses Some People Hatched Conspiracy To Kill Her

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that a group of people have hatched a conspiracy to assassinate her and that supari killers (professional assassins) have been hired for the job. The chief minister also said that she had prepared a political will that mentions names of leaders who will take charge of her party, the Trinamool Congress, in her absence.

This was the first time Banerjee made such a statement. Top officers of the state police refused to comment and did not want to be quoted on this issue.

“The killers have even made a recce of my home at Kalighat. I came to know of this because I am part of the administration. The police asked me several times to shift to a safer location but I refused. I am not scared of dying. If I live behind security cover I will start distancing myself from the people,” said Banerjee.
