Court Asks Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube And Bing To File Response On Disclosing Identity Of Kathua Rape Victim

New Delhi: Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar asked the parent company of Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Bing to file a response after they disclosed the identity of an eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir. The direction came after their Indian subsidiary apprised the bench that they were not the concerned entity to respond to the court’s query.

The court observed that several Internet platforms and social networking sites were extensively displaying the photographs and name of the victim.Google and other social media platforms have done a great disservice to the nation by uploading contents which revealed the identity of the minor victim, the bench said.

Thunderstorm And Gusty Winds May Again Hit Delhi Over Next Couple Of Days

New Delhi:The India Meteorological Department has warned of more such storms over the next two days.A thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds and very light rain hit parts of Delhi on Thursday evening.There were, however, no reports of any injuries or casualties. One domestic flight was diverted till reports last came in.

“A thunderstorm hit Delhi in the evening. There were gusty winds. While in Palam area the maximum wind speed recorded was around 58 km per hour, at Safdarjung the wind speed was 71 km per hour,” said a scientist of the regional weather forecasting centre.

The storm, which had hit national capital on Wednesday, had a wind speed of 106 km per hour. It had left one person dead and another 18 injured.

Some parts of Delhi received traces to very light rain. It failed to bring any considerable change in the mercury.

A Central To Visit Varanasi To Do A Separate Probe In Flyover Collapse

New Delhi: Four teams are investigating the collapse of a portion of an under-construction flyover in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi killing 18 people on Tuesday. Officials said on Thursday and a central team was also likely to visit the site on Friday to conduct a separate probe.

“It will submit its report to the Prime Minister’s office (PMO),” a senior district administration official, who did not wish to be named, said.

The official said the PMO was keeping a close watch on all the investigations that are being carried out.

“The PMO will not only review the probe report of the central team but also of all others committees,” he added.

Indonesia Gives Military Access Of Sabang Island Close To Malacca Strait

New Delhi:An importer partner of India, Indonesia has agreed to give the country economic and military access to the strategic island of Sabang at the northern tip of Sumatra and close to the Malacca Strait. Luhut Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s coordinating minister for maritime affairs and a former military officer, said India will invest in the port and economic zone of Sabang and build a hospital.

He noted the port’s 40-metre depth is good for all types of vessels, “including submarines”. In time, he said, the coast guards of the two countries could also work together.

Sabang, also known as Weh island, is located 710 km southeast of the Andaman Islands and less than 500 km from the entrance of the Malacca Strait, through which almost 40% of India’s trade passes.

Kejriwal Writes Letters to Haryana CM and Delhi LG for Appropriate Water Supply

New Delhi: In a threatening tone that inappropriate water supply may hinder water supply in President House and Embassies, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has written letters to lieutenant governor Anil Baijal as well as to his counterpart in Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, seeking the supply of the same amount of water as the neighbouring state has been doing for the past 22 years.

He also expressed worry that disruption in water supply by Haryana would affect the functioning of the Chandrawal water treatment plant, which supplies water to VIP areas of Delhi, including Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament and various embassies.
