Army Chief Visits Jammu And Kashmir To Take Stock Of The Situation

New Delhi: Chief of Army Staff Gen BipinRawat visited the Kashmir Valley to review the prevailing security situation in the hinterland. Army chief General BipinRawat reviewed the prevailing security situation in Kashmir today.

Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said in a statement in Srinagar that the Army chief was accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen A K Bhatt. Rawat visited formation headquarters and units where he was briefed by the commanders on the ground about the operational preparedness, the spokesman said.

CBI Registers FIR In Staff Selection Commission Paper Leak Scam

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) is conducting searches at 12 locations across the country in connection with the case of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) paper leak scam.The CBI on May 23 registered an FIR in the paper leak scam case, which was entrusted to the top investigative agency in March this year.

CBI registered a case against 17 accused over leak of Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The accused persons include the content team head of a private technology company and 16 other private persons, unknown officials of SSC, reported ANI.

Alert Sounded By IMD For Extreme Heat Wave In Parts Of North India

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alert for extreme heat wave in west Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh. India continues to reel under the impact of extreme weather events, heat waves developed across northwest and central India.

Heat wave conditions were also experienced in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, East Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

Palam experienced the first heat wave of the season on Wednesday as the mercury level touched 45.2 degrees Celsius. The rest of Delhi reeled under near-heat wave conditions, missing the benchmark by just one degree.

Government Approves 4,000 Mobile Towers In Naxal-Hit Areas

New Delhi:  The Union Cabinet has cleared the proposal of installing over 4,000 mobile towers in naxal-hit areas. The proposal to install 4,072 mobile towers in ten naxal hit states was made to improve the telecom network.

The telecom commission had approved the proposal to install the 4,072 mobile towers in the 10 states under the mobile tower phase-II scheme.In the first phase, which was completed about two years ago, 2,329 mobile towers were installed at a cost of Rs 3,167 crore in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The additional towers will strengthen the telecom network resulting in increased mobile penetration in Left Wing Extremism-affected and other areas facing security challenges. The exact cost of the fresh endeavour is not immediately known but the expenses are expected to be borne by the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) of the Department of Telecommunications.

Five Civilian Killed; 40 Injured In Ceasefire Breach By Pakistan

New Delhi: Civilians killed by Pakistan when at least five of them were killed and 40 people, including three BSF jawans got injured on Wednesday as Pakistan attacked Indian posts and villages along the 198km-long border in Jammu and Kashmir for the seventh straight day.

The escalation in hostilities, which coincided with the government calling off operations in Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan, has forced around 100,000 people to leave their villages for safer locations.“Five civilians died and 37 others were injured in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in the latest round of Pak shelling on Wednesday,” state police chief SP Vaid said.

The Pakistani army joined its border guards, the Pakistan Rangers, in raining mortar shells on around 100 villages and 80 Border Security Forces (BSF) posts in the three districts.
