New Delhi: Delhi chief minister ArvindKejriwalhas demanded powers to the elected government of Delhi to propose the name for the appointment to the position of Delhi’s lieutenant governor, who is appointed by the Centre. This was a move further to demand the full statehood for Delhi.
Kejriwal, who frequently has confrontations with the LG over various issues related to governance which recently also saw him sit on a dharna inside LG House, said his cabinet should propose a name and the same person should be appointed LG by the Centre till Delhi becomes a full state.
“This is not an unconstitutional demand. The constitution says the Centre should appoint the LG, it does not say that the elected government cannot propose a name,” Kejriwal said at IGI indoor stadium where AamAadmi Party organized a gathering of supporters to launch a campaign for full statehood.
