Holding LS And Assembly Polls Together Anti-Democratic, Says CPI (M)

New Delhi:The Communist Party of India (Marxist) gave its submission to the Law Commission saying that holding LokSabha and Assembly polls together was inherently "anti-democratic" and negates the principles of federalism which is a fundamental feature of Constitution.

The panel had on June 14 written to all recognised political parties seeking their views on the issue. In his letter to the commission, CPI(M) General Secretary SitaramYechury listed the party's objections to the proposal stating that it goes beyond the ambit of law reform entailing major amendments to Constitution, and would run against both the "letter and spirit of our Constitution".

LJP Denies Any Difference Between BJP And Janata Dal (United) On Issue Of Seat Sharing

New Delhi:The LokJanshakti Party (LJP) has claimed that there was no difference between the BJP and Janata Dal (United) on the issue of seat sharing. The LJP is one of the important allies of the BharatiyaJanata Party in the state.

The party says that everything is alright in the alliance as it is in touch with both the parties. However, the alliance parties feel that the BJP has become more cautious after Telugu Desam Party parted ways from the alliance.

LJP president and Union minister in the Modi cabinet Ram Vilas Paswan said that there is a need to understand that people fiercely opposing PM included West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Odissa chief minister NabinPatnaik and the Congress up to some extent but what have these leaders to offer to people.

SC Bans Appointment Of Acting Director General Of Police By The State Governments

New Delhi: The Supreme Court insisted that state police chiefs must be chosen from a panel of three officers prepared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)banning the appointment of acting director general of police (DGP) by state governments.

Referring to the scheme for appointment of DGPs outlined in its 2006 judgment in Prakash Singh case, a bench of CJI DipakMisra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud took exception to certain states saying they had already enacted laws for a different scheme for DGP appointments. It said, “You (states) are trying to destroy the Prakash Singh judgment.”

Rajasthan Government In A Damage-Control Mode By Withdrawing Cases Against Rajputs

New Delhi:,With assembly elections coming closure, the Rajasthan government is in a damage-limitation mode by decision to withdraw cases against Rajputs.It has taken two major decisions to minimise damage in two daysthat may be caused by the Rajputs and the Gujjars, the two communities that have traditionally been BJP supporters but are miffed with the party of late.

On Monday, the government came out with clarifications regarding the OBC (other backward classes) and MBC (most backward classes) reservations for the Gujjars, prompting the pastoral community to withdraw its call to protest during Prime Minister NarendraModi’s July 7 Jaipur visit.

Congress To Devise Strategy With Opposition For Monsoon Session Of Parliament

New Delhi: The Congress plans to hold a meeting of opposition political parties on July 16 and 17 to devise a separate strategy for the monsoon session of Parliament.Monsoon session is scheduled for July 20 to August 18, 2018.

It appears that the Congress would not allow Parliament to function smoothly. If the BJP has its strategy for Parliament then the Congress too has its strategy to counter the government plans.

Sources said that the meeting with other opposition parties will discuss larger session strategy. The meeting will also discuss issues like agrarian distress in the country, state of the economy of the nation, dismal women security conditions and many other issues plaguing the country.
