GST Council Likely To Discuss Exemption of Temples from The GST Purview

New Delhi: Shrines like Tirupati Tirumala Devsthanam, Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, SidhdhiVinakay Temple are demanding exemption from the GST by saying that they are not involved in business activities rather in social and charitable activities. The next Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting, which is scheduled for August 4, 2018, may take up the issue of exemption of temple and other religious shrines from the GST purview.

One of the GST members and minister of finance, planning, commercial taxes and legislative affairs the Andhra Pradesh government Yanamala Rama krishnudu has written a letter to GST Council chairman demanding exemption of temple from GST. Rama krishnudu writes, "I request you to consider granting exemption u/s 23 (2) to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). The TTD is a religious Trust and manages world renowned Lord Venkateswara temple. It is not engaged in business activity.

People Left Out In Final NRC Can Visit NRC Offices From August 7 To Find The Reason

New Delhi: Sailesh, the country’s Registrar General and Census Commissioner, said that those who have been left out of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam can visit NRC offices in Assam from August 7 to learn the reason for their exclusion. They can subsequently file claims to prove their citizenship with technicalities not becoming a deterrent.

Around 4 million people, more than 10 percent of the total population of Assam, have been left out of the final draft of the NRC.“The authorities are aware of the concerns of those left out of the NRC. The authorities will ensure that no Indian is left out of the NRC on account of technicalities or due to lack of information,” Sailesh added.

India-China Face-Off Over Doklam Resolved Through Diplomatic Maturity Without Losing Ground: Sushma

New Delhi:External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj said on Wednesday that the India-China face-off over Doklam was resolved through "diplomatic maturity without losing any ground" and status quo has been maintained. Answering to a question in the LokSabha,Swarajsaid that the main objective of the informal summit between Prime Minister NarendraModi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at Wuhan was to ensure mutual comfort, mutual understanding and mutual trust between the two leaders and all the three objectives have been achieved.

"We have resolved the Doklam issue with diplomatic maturity without losing any ground. There is no change in the status quo (on the ground). There is not an iota of change. The face off at sight has been resolved on August 28, 2017," she said during the Question Hour.

Sidhu To Attend Swearing-In Of Imran Khan As Pakistan's New Prime Minister On August 11

New Delhi: Cricketer-turned-politician and minister in Amrinder Singh government in Punjab Navjot Singh Sidhu has accepted invitation to attend swearing-in of Imran Khan as Pakistan's new Prime Minister on August 11. Former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, KapilDev, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan have also been invited by Pakistan's Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan for his oath-taking ceremony.

It is, however, not yet clear if Prime Minister NarendraModi would be invited. As per reports, Khan's party - Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) - has asked the Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) to clarify if foreign heads of state, including Prime Minister NarendraModi, could be invited for August 11 event. "It's a great honour and accept the invitation. Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted," Navjot Singh Sidhusaid.

Corporate Houses To Join Hands to Give facelift to Ganga Ghats and Development

New Delhi: Several corporate houses in the country have undertaken CSR projects for ghat cleaning and development, afforestation, provision of amenities and similar work under NamamiGangeprogramme to give banks of River Ganga a facelift.Companies like Shipping Corporation of India, Indorama Corporation, IndusInd Bank, Yes Bank, Hinduja Group, Arcelor Mittal, New Indian Express, Bajaj Electricals, Amer Maritime, HCL, Reliance Industries and a few others have undertaken projects. Ganga rejuvenation projects are notified as CSR activity under Companies Act 2013.

Corporates can give donations to the Clean Ganga Fund and also take up projects for rejuvenating the river. Minister of Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Road Transport and Highways and Shipping NitinGadkari urged companies to undertake more and more projects for rejuvenation of Ganga as part of their CSR activity.
