75 Plus BJP Leaders May Get Lok Sabha Tickets But Not Ministerial Berth

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: In a news election strategy, the Bharatiya Janata Party decides to field leaders above 75-years of age to contest Lok Sabha elections but won’t be given ministerial berth. The earlier stand of the party was not to field leaders above 75-years however the party is categorical that they won't be made ministers. The party may even clarify its stand soon in this regard.

Sources said that as per the new strategy, the party will field leaders above 75-years of age but they will not be given ministerial berth in the Union cabinet. As by not allowing leaders above 75 years of age to contest Lok Sabha elections might harm the party. Many important leaders like L K Advani from Gujarat, M M Joshi, Kalraj Mishra from Uttar Pradesh, Sumitra Mahajan from Madhya Pradesh, Hukum Dev Narayan Singh Yadav from Bihar and B S Yeddyurappa from Karnataka would have been denied tickets with this rule as they have crossed the so-called threshold limit which the party cannot afford to do.

SC Rules, Penal Provision On Adultery Violative Of Right To Equality; Treats Married Men And Women Differently

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India ruled on August 2 that matrimonial sanctity is an issue but the penal provision on adultery is apparently violative of the right to equality under the Constitution. It treats married men and women differently.

A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, which is hearing a petition challenging the constitutional validity of Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code, was also critical of a part of the provision stating that no offence of adultery is made out if a married woman enters into a sexual relationship with a married man with the consent of her husband.

SC Refuses To Interfere Into HC Verdict Granting Anticipatory Bail To Karti Chidambaram

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India denied interfering in the Delhi High Court (HC) verdict granting anticipatory bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of former union minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media case.

“We do not find any reason to interfere with the high court order,” said a bench of justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan, declining to accept the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) plea to set aside the pre-arrest bail order in Karti’s favour.

On additional solicitor general (ASG) Tushar Mehta’s insistence, the court noted that the observations made by the HC judge shall not influence other proceedings. Mehta illustrated how the judge had commented on the statement given by Indrani Mukherjea, co-founder of INX media, who is also facing charges of murdering her daughter.
