SC Exonerates Officer Of Alleged Misconduct Awarding Him A Rank Of Lt Colonel Post-Retirement

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has restored the honour of an Army veteran who was among the officers who led the Operation Bluestar in 1984 and upheld a decision to exonerate him of charges of alleged misconduct and award him a rank of Lieutenant Colonel post-retirement.

The top court upheld the decision of Armed Forces Tribunal setting aside the “punishment of reprimand” awarded to Major (now retd) Kunwar Ambreshwar Singh on charge of retaining certain electronic items recovered during the operation to flush out Sikh extremists from the Golden Temple Complex.

Dawood Ibrahim’s Key Aide Jabir Moti Arrested In London

New Delhi: Dawood Ibrahim’s right-hand man Jabir Moti has been arrested in London. Moti, who was managing Dawood’s investments in the UK, UAE and other countries, was arrested by officials of the Charring Cross Police Station in London. The investigators are expected to question him on his association with Dawood, his family members and his henchmen.

India had made requests for Moti’s arrest earlier. He is allegedly involved in drug smuggling, extortion and other criminal activities.

Bihar Government Plans To Completely Phase Out All NGO-Run Shelter Homes

New Delhi: The Bihar government has decided to completely phase out all non-government organisations running shelter homes in the state. However, this cannot happen overnight. The initial challenge before the Bihar government is to prevent recurrence of such cases and also address growing health concerns of inmates at most shelter homes across the state.

The uproar over rapes of minor girls at the Muzaffarpur shelter home, death of two inmates and severe health problems afflicting two others at the Aasra shelter home in Patna, and the disappearance of a girl from a shelter home in Madhubani have finally galvanized the Nitish Kumar government into action.

WCD Ministry Summons Air India Chairman For Delay In Handling Sexual Harassment Case

New Delhi: Union women and child development ministry has summoned the national carrier’s chairman and managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola to its office on August 23 to explain the delay in handling sexual harassment case.  The ministry was not satisfied with the way Air India has handled complaints of sexual harassment lodged by some of its women staff against a senior executive.

According to two senior ministry officials who asked not to be identified, besides Kharola, the head of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) constituted by Air India to inquire into complaints of sexual harassment has also been summoned by the ministry.

Manipur University Students Union May “Temporarily Suspend” Its Strike That Has Paralyzed Functioning For Over Two Months

New Delhi: After the ministry of human resource development (HRD) has issued the necessary order, as per the memorandum of agreement (MoA) signed among the community, the Manipur University may “temporarily suspend” its shutdown strike, which has paralyzed the functioning of more than 80 colleges affiliated with it for over two months.

“The ongoing agitation shall be temporarily suspended after the issuance of official orders, as per the mutually reached understanding, in the interest of the public in general and the students...,” reads the MoA, signed at the end of the three-day meet.
