Possibility Of Flood In Odisha With Water Level Swelling After Sischarge Of Water From Hirakud Dam

New Delhi: The Odisha government said that there was a possibility of a minor-to-medium flood in 11 districts located in the river basin with the water level in Mahanadi River swelling after discharge of water from the Hirakud Dam.

With the situation likely to become grim in the next 12 hours, chief minister Naveen Patnaik took stock of the situation and asked the administration to remain alert. “There is a possibility of a minor to medium floods in these 11 districts located in the Mahanadi river basin,” a statement issued by the chief minister’s office (CMO) said.

India Heads Of Social Media Platforms Told To Abide By Law Or Get Ready To Face Prosecution

New Delhi:  The government is likely to send tough message like abide by law or face prosecution to India heads of social media platforms if the recommendations of a high-level government panel, which discussed steps to curb fake news and misinformation besides child pornography, are accepted.

The issue was discussed by a committee of secretaries, which was constituted following lynching of nearly 40 people in last one year suspectedly due to circulation of fake news in popular social media platforms like WhatsApp, an official privy to the development said.

New Delhi: In the run-up to Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India plans to implement many measures to curb circulation of fake news on social media.

Chief election commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat said, who was in Bhopal to assess the preparations for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections said the poll panel was keeping a close watch on circulation of fake news to ensure that it is not used to influence voters.

SC Expresses Reservations Over Government Plan To Deal With Claims Of Persons Excluded From National Register Of Citizens

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has suggested coordinator of the National Register for Citizens exercise Prateek Hajela to explore the possibility of reverifying 10 per cent of the data to ensure it was error-free as the court expressed its reservations over the proposed standard operating procedure (SOP) suggested by the Union government to deal with the claims of four million persons excluded from the National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

The register was itself mandated by the court as part of an effort to identify illegal migrants in the state.
