New Delhi: An innocent girl had died during the Bharat Bandh Call by the opposition across the country but a Bihar government official disagreed with the man who alleged that her two-year-old daughter died in Bihar’s Jehanbad district after being stuck in a road blockade.

Pramod Majhi said his daughter, whose name is not known immediately, had diarrhoea for three days and her condition worsened Sunday night. “On Monday morning, we decided to rush her to Jehanabad Sadar Hospital. As our vehicle moved, the bandh supporters put up blockades and we got stuck on the road. My daughter could not reach hospital on time and died on the way to hospital,” said Majhi, a resident of Barbigha village in Jehanbad.

New Delhi: A group of agitating nuns alleged Kerala director general of police (DGP) Loknath Behra sabotaging the ongoing inquiry and said they will move the court. The said all this a day after taking to streets seeking justice for them who was allegedly raped by Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mullakal.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) said it directed the DGP to file a case against law-maker P C George for portraying the victim in bad light by terming her a prostitute.

Chidambaram Dares The BJP Government To Contradict His Claims On Growth During UPA Regime

New Delhi: Former Union finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram dared the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government to contradict an official data on growth. The data has said the economy clocked a 10.08-per cent growth in 2006-07 under the UPA rule, the highest since liberalisation in 1991.

The former finance minister reacted after BJP president Amit Shah asked his party leaders to challenge Chidambaram and others from the opposition for an open debate on the government’s economic policies based on facts and figures.

Government Asks High Courts To Speed Up Recruitment Of Judicial Officers

New Delhi: The central government has asked that high courts must speed up the recruitment of judicial officers for the lower judiciary as one of the reasons for high pendency is lack of judges.

Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has written to chief justices of the 24 high courts urging them to hold timely examination and interviews to recruit judges for lower courts.

In his August 14 letter, Prasad pointed out that there are a total of 2,76,74,499 cases pending in the district and subordinate courts of the country.
