New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch a mass contact programme over the Citizenship (Amendment) bill. The bill makes illegal Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible for citizenship. The BJP has asked all its chief ministers to get the proposed law translated into local languages, printed on pamphlets, and distributed among people.

Court Asks Delhi Police To Hand Over Documents To Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor

New Delhi: A court in New Delhi has directed the Delhi Police to hand over some documents to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in connection with a case against him pertaining to his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death. His wife died around four years ago in a luxury hotel in New Delhi.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal issued the directions after senior advocate Vikash Pahwa, appearing for the politician, told the court that some of the documents the agency gave were not readable, while many pages were missing.

CAG Questions Govt Claim Of Gujarat Being Open Defecation Free

New Delhi: Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has questioned the government claim of Gujarat being ‘Open Defecation Free’ (ODF). It appears to be wrong as many rural households were found to have no toilets.

In a survey conducted in eight districts, nearly 30 per cent of houses were found to have no toilets, said the CAG report tabled in the state Assembly on Wednesday.

The Union government had informed the Lok Sabha in February this year that 11 states, including Gujarat, have been declared as ODF under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).

Odisha Police Arrests Iyer-Mitra For His Alleged Derogatory Tweets On Sun And Jagannath Temples

New Delhi: The Odisha police arrested political commentator Abhijit Iyer-Mitra from Delhi days after his allegedly derogatory tweets on the Sun and the Jagannath temples created a storm in Odisha Assembly and outside.  He was later grated bail.

Manish Khurana, chief metropolitan magistrate of Delhi’s Saket court, granted Iyer-Mitra bail on a bond of Rs 1 lakh, directing him to join investigation in Konark police station by September 28.

A Odisha police team from Konark arrived at Delhi’s Nizamuddin police station this morning with an arrest warrant against Iyer-Mitra, a friend of former Biju Janata Dal MP Baijayant Panda, accusing him of deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, using words, deliberately intended to wound the religious feelings of any person, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion under the Indian Penal Code and under section 66 of Information Technology Act.

Cyclonic Storm To Cause Heavy Rainfall In Odisha, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a cyclonic storm is developing over south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts which is likely to cause heavy rainfall at several parts of Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

There may be rainfall in parts of Telangana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, even parts of Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan, while the sea will be very rough and fishermen have been advised not to venture into northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh coasts over till Friday evening.
