Rahul Gandhi Attacks Kashmir Policy of Modi; Hold Him Responsible For Killings

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that Jammu and Kashmir was on fire while reiterating his allegations over issues like the Rafale deal. Gandhi blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for escalating violence and the killings of soldiers in militant attacks in north Indian state. In his address to a public meeting in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.

The BJP rejected his allegations and asked Gandhi to explain Madhya Pradesh’s backwardness under the Congress rule. Gandhi cited his meeting with ex-servicemen on Saturday and said they blamed Modi for the killings of jawans and for the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Wherever prime minister goes, he talks about (the September 2016 ) surgical strike (against militant launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir), the army, the air force, and the navy. But what did he do for those who took part in the surgical strike and also what did he do for soldiers…?” he asked at the meeting on the first day of his two-day visit to Madhya Pradesh’s Malwa-Nimad region.

Opposition Says, They Would Honour SC Decision In Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi Dispute

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Opposition political parties said that they would honour the Supreme Court decision in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the sensitive issue to polarise people. The Congress called for restraint without linking the issue to “votebank politics” hours after the top court deferred the hearing into the title suit to January.

Former finance minister P Chidambaram dismissed allegations by BJP leader Vinay Katiyar that the issue was being delayed “under pressure” from the Congress. “Well, this is a familiar story. Every five years before elections, the BJP tries to polarise views on Ram Mandir,” he said.

The Samajwadi Party said its stand on the issue was that the dispute should either be decided by an out-of-court settlement or all parties should respect the court’s decision.

So far, the state government has detained around 3500 protestors.

The protestors are opposing a Supreme Court judgement that allowed women of all ages to enter the temple. Analysts say that the BJP’s response has helped it take over the mantle of the state’s main opposition from the Congress, which has aked party workers not to resort to direct action.
