Earthquake of 3.6 magnitude strikes Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, no damage reported

Earthquake tremors measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale were felt in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district on Saturday morning, the National Center for Seismology said.

The earthquake took place around 3.15 am and was located 10 kilometres beneath the surface of the earth. The epicentre was 58 km North West of Uttarkashi.

No life or property loss was reported after the earthquake.

Jyotiraditya to take up Bagdogra Airport modernization with West Bengal govt

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia on Thursday assured the Lok Sabha that his ministry would take up the matter related to the modernization of Bagdogra airport in North Bengal, a part of Darjeeling in West Bengal.

The issue of modernization of Bagdogra airport came up during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. The BJP Member from Darjeeling Raju Bista sought to draw the Aviation Minister’s attention to the tardy pace of work of modernization of the Bagdogra airport.

Telangana CM KCR not to receive PM Modi on Hyderabad visit, nominates minister

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has nominated Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy Development Minister T Srinivas Yadav to receive and see off Prime Minister Modi during his visit.

PM Modi is visiting Hyderabad on Saturday to attend two programmes, both on the outskirts of the city. He will visit the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) campus in Patancheru to launch its 50th anniversary celebrations. He will also dedicate the Statue of Equality to the nation.

In a politically significant move, Rao has nominated another minister to receive the prime minister.

Terrorist involved in killing of head constable neutralised by J&K police

Two terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba's local offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) were neutralised by Jammu and Kashmir police in an encounter at the Zakura area of Srinagar city. One of the terrorists killed in the encounter has been identified as Ikhlaq Hajam, Kashmir's inspector general of police Vijay Kumar said. 

Hajam was involved in the recent killing of head constable Ali Muhammad Ganie in Anantnag's Hassanpora. Kumar said that incriminating materials including two pistols were recovered from the site.

Bengal logs 1,916 new Covid-19 cases, 36 deaths

West Bengal saw its daily tally of Covid-19 cases declining as the state logged 1,916 cases on Thursday. The state had registered 2,723 new infections on Wednesday.

It also reported 36 fatalities due to Covid-19, which took its toll to 20,723.

West Bengal’s positivity rate and recovery rate stood at 3.94 per cent and 97.91 per cent respectively on Thursday.
