Sandwiched between BJP, which is toeing an aggressive Hindutva line, and fundamental Islamic political outfit Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Congress faces the threat of erosion of its majority Hindu and minority Muslim votebank.

Be it the hijab controversy, or the anti-conversion bill, Congress has faced discomfort. Positioned as a secular party, it can't be over-inclined towards either section. Admitting that it is facing political and electoral challenges from SDPI, Congress's B L Shankar said the party can't push a hard line like BJP and SDPI do.

At least two people have died and several are feared trapped after the roof of an apartment in Haryana’s Gurugram collapsed on Thursday evening. The incident occurred on the sixth floor of the D Block of the Chintels Paradiso housing complex in Gurugram’s Sector 109. The drawing room floor collapsed while a room on the floor was being renovated. All of the building’s roofs and floors, from the sixth to the ground floor, collapsed at the same time, and rescue operations are currently on.

A delegation of BJP met Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais and submitted a memorandum against Chief Minister Hemant Soren. It has been alleged in the memorandum that Hemant Soren has misused his post as CM and allotted mines on his own name.

All students, regardless of religion or faith, are restrained from wearing "saffron shawls (bhagwa), scarves, hijabs, religious flags within classrooms", a full bench of the Karnataka high court has ruled in an interim order that it said is applicable only to those institutions that have prescribed a dress code or uniform.

The order, passed on Thursday, was released on Friday. The bench of CJ Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justices Krishna S Dixit and JM Khazi said it is pained by ongoing agitations and closure of educational institutions when the court is seized of the matter and issues of constitutional significance and personal law are being debated.
