COVID Vaccine to be Taken 28 Days Apart, Antibodies Develop 2 Weeks After Last Dose, Says AIIMS Director

As India gears up for the world`s largest vaccination programme, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare addressed apprehensions expressed by the public regarding the COVID-19 vaccine`s effectiveness, safety and availability, among others. 

In a video issued by the Health Ministry, Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) answered commonly asked questions regarding the dosage of the vaccine saying that two doses of the vaccine will have to be taken 28 days apart and protective levels of antibodies generally would develop two weeks after the second dose. 

He further informed that after all doses of the vaccine are administered, a QR-code based certificate will also be sent to the mobile number of the beneficiary and recommended that after vaccination, patients should take rest for at least 30 minutes.

Union Minister Sadananda Gowda Collapses as His Sugar Level Falls

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and former Karnakata chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda was rushed to a hospital on Sunday afternoon after he collapsed near a hotel in Chitradurga where he stopped for lunch after attending a BJP function in Shivamogga.

“Gowda was brought to Aster CMI hospital at 4.45 pm today. His condition is stable and he will be kept under observation for the next 24 hours,” a spokesperson from Aster CMI hospital in Bengaluru said.

According to sources close to the former CM, the 67-year-old fainted after his sugar levels dropped. “The minister suffered hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as he was late for lunch by an hour because of a BJP function that he attended in Shivamogga. A diabetic patient, he fell unconscious next to his car around 1.45 pm. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Chitradurga. He was on his way back to Bengaluru where he stopped for lunch en route,” a source told reporters.

Will quit politics if the MSP is abolished, says Haryana CM

A day after the ruling BJP and Jannayak Janata party (JJP) combine lost elections to three out of five municipal corporations in Haryana amid the protest by farmers against farm laws, the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday vowed to quit politics if the minimum support price (MSP) is abolished in the state.”We are committed to the continuation of the MSP in Haryana. Manohar Lal will quit politics if anyone tries to end the MSP regime,” the CM said while addressing a Press conference.

Khattar said his government had taken a lot of initiatives for farmers in the last six years including massive procurement of produce. He alleged that the farmers’ stir commenced as they were instigated by Opposition parties. Appreciating the series of talks held between the Centre and the farmer leaders, Khattar expressed hope that the standoff over the laws will be resolved soon.

J&K Police Seizes Ammo Dump, Claims to Have Foiled Terror Plot

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday seized five more grenades along with a piston and 35 rounds from a village along the Line of Control in the Mendhar area of Poonch district and claimed to have foiled a “major terror plot to fuel tension in Jammu division”.

“Handlers from across the border dropped the consignment in hidden patches near the LoC and these terror associates picked it up for further carriage into the hinterland,” a police statement said.

The total recovery made so far include 13 grenades, three pistols, five pistol magazines, 105 pistol bullets, four Pakistan made balloons, one flag of Tehreek ul Majahideen Jammu and Kashmir and 18 posters of J&K Ghaznavi Force.

Flights Between UK & India To Resume Partially From January 8: Aviation Minister Puri

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday said that flights between India and the United Kingdom will resume partially from January 8.

"It has been decided that flights between India and UK will resume from January 8, 2021," Hardeep Singh Puri said.

Initially, till January 23, the operations will be restricted to 15 flights per week each for carriers of the two countries to and from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad only.

It means each country's carriers will get 15 flights per week, ie, Indian carriers - Air India and Vistara - will get 15 flights per week. And British carriers - British Airways and Virgin Atlantic - will get 15 flights per week.
