Gupkar alliance faces major setback as Sajad Lone quits

in DNDQuick

In a major setback to the People`s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), People's Conference chairperson Sajad Lone on Tuesday announced his party's exit from the opposition alliance over the recent District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The PAGD is a seven-party conglomerate.

Lone announced the decision in a letter to PAGD head and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah. In a letter to Abdullah, Lone said that the reason behind quitting is that some constituents of the grouping had fielded proxy candidates in the district development council (DDC) election.

"On the face of it, PAGD won these elections unambiguously having won the maximum number of seats. We can't hide statistics and apart from the number of seats that PAGD won, other important statistical variable in the context of August 5 (Abrogation of Article 370) is the number of votes polled against the PAGD," Lone said in the letter.

Bombay High Court refuses to purge petitioners' name 4 years after FIR was quashed

in DNDQuick

Bombay high court in its judgement has refused to purge the names of a woman and her family from the high court record in a 4-year-old case.

A woman had approached the Bombay high court recently pleading that an order passed by the court on April 29, 2016 should be treated as confidential and that no one should be able to access it, without her permission. As an alternative, she also hoped that the court could at least block her name as part of the court recording.

The entire issue pertained to a domestic fight which had happened on 16th March 2016 in Dubai. The husband of the woman had registered an FIR in Gamdevi police station in Mumbai after that. However later, the dispute which had arisen out of a property dispute subsided and consent terms were executed between the parties. Before the division bench of Justice A. S. Oka and Justice P. D. Naik, the family appeared and said that they had decided to amicably settle the dispute and sought the quashing of the FIR. The Court had observed that the dispute is of personal nature amongst close family members which have been amicably settled.
