Bihar MLAs rush to meet Nitish Kumar ahead of cabinet expansion

When Mohammad Zama Khan, the lone Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA in Bihar, joined Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United on January 22 and Independent MLA Sumit Singh pledged support to the ruling party, political observers sensed that the season of shifting sands of politics had just begun in the state.

As Bihar eagerly awaits a cabinet expansion, the lone Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MLA, Raj Kumar Singh, and all five legislators of the Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) also paid a visit to the Bihar chief minister on January 28, triggering speculation about more change of hearts.

The cabinet expansion is being eagerly awaited. The Nitish cabinet at present has 14 ministers, including the chief minister. The state can have a total of 36 ministers.

Five identified at Red Fort have criminal records in Punjab: Delhi Police

Initial investigation by the Delhi Police into the vandalism at Red Fort by a section of farm protesters who veered off the designated route on Republic Day has indicated that at least five of those identified have criminal records in Punjab and were picked up by state police earlier, sources told media.

Raids are on to arrest them, sources said.

An estimated 1,000 people, on 30-40 tractors and around 150 motorcycles and cars, had forcibly entered Red Fort premises, where they chased and assaulted policemen, looted their anti-riot gear, held some hostage inside a public toilet and vandalised the ticket counter, according to an FIR based on a complaint by SHO (Kotwali) Rituraj.

Sources said that after scanning footage from several CCTV cameras, police have identified some men. “Details on the background of five to six of them have been verified with Punjab Police. Some have an attempt to murder case in the past, while others have been arrested over brawls,” said a source.

Delhi University to reopen for final year students

The Delhi University announced on Sunday that it will allow final year students at all its colleges with 100 per cent staff strength from February 1.

The decision was taken after a meeting with the heads of the departments of the university and principals of colleges.

"Only final year students, in small batches, are allowed to visit their respective colleges, centres and departments for their laboratory, practicals, skill, library and related activities, as per the discretion of the respective principal, director or head in line with the UGC guidelines and SOPs," it said in a notification.

The university said the section incharge or unit head may plan the timings of the staff in a staggered manner to avoid crowding at entry and exit gates.

Indian Railways to resume e-catering service from February 1

Indian Railways will resume its e-catering services from February 1, said Indian Railways in a tweet on Friday. Earlier IRCTC, the railways’ catering arm, had in a statement had also said that IRCTC will resume its e-catering services from next month, without mentioning any date. The order comes after Railway Board has permitted IRCTC to resume e-catering services at a selected number of stations, reported a news agency.

The Ministry of Railways took to twitter to inform about resumption of e-catering services, it wrote, "Indian Railways to resume e-catering services from 1st February. This will further enhance travel experience and passenger convenience as they can enjoy their favourite & fresh food during train journeys."

Earlier, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, e-catering services were suspended on March 22, 2020.
