Maharashtra COVID Cases: 1-week lockdown in Amravati from Monday as cases rise; essential services allowed

A one-week lockdown was enforced by officials in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Sunday in wake of the sudden rise in coronavirus cases across the state.

While announcing the decision, Guardian Minister Yashomati Thakur said that the lockdown will begin from 8 pm on Monday in the district, excluding Achalpur the city. He, however, added that essential services will stay available.

Noting that the decision was taken after an uptick in COVID-19 cases, Thakur warned that the lockdown can be extended if people continue to flout coronavirus protocols.

West Bengal Assembly election 2021, Dhupguri profile: CPM eyes redemption in former stronghold

The Dhupguri Assembly constituency is located in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.

It falls under the Jalpaiguri (SC) Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes candidates, has 2,51,197 electors and 260 polling stations.

he voter turnout in Dhupguri in the previous Assembly election was 88 percent.

In the 2016 West Bengal Assembly election, Mitali Roy of the Trinamool Congress won the Dhupguri seat, securing 90,781 votes. Roy defeated a CPM candidate, making it the first time since 1977 that the seat was not held by the latter.

Sonam Wangchuk makes solar-powered tent for Indian Army

Ladakh-based engineer & the man behind the character of Phunsukh Wangdu in the Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots Sonam Wangchuk has now built a solar-powered military tent for the Indian Army at the Galwan Valley.

This tent has the potential to accommodate 10 jawans and is fully portable with the weight of the tent is said to be less than 30 kilos. Wangchuk also revealed that the tent could sustain even under sub-zero temperatures such as minus 14 degrees Celsius while pointing out that it was carbon neutral, replacing kerosene and tackling pollution.

Another spike of 921 Covid-19 cases in Mumbai, tally close to 3.20 lakh

The number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases continue to rise in Maharashtra's capital Mumbai. On Sunday, the city recorded 921 cases, up from the previous high of 897 a day before.

The city also reported six fatalities due to Covid-19, which pushed the statewide death toll to 11,446. The infection count in Mumbai reached 3,19,128 on Sunday.

Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed the people of the state on Sunday evening where he compared the war against Covid-19 with the World War. He also said that mask is an "effective shield to protect ourselves from the virus".

Delhi records 158 new Covid-19 cases, one death in last 24 hours

The national Capital on Friday recorded 158 new Covid-19 cases, 157 recoveries and one death, as per the daily health bulletin. The total number of active coronavirus cases in the capital currently stands at 1,053, while the total caseload has crossed 6.37 lakh.

The coronavirus fatalities in Delhi has been on a significant decline since the past few weeks as it has been reporting single-digit daily deaths. On Wednesday, the capital did not record any fatality. This was the third time Delhi reported zero daily coronavirus death. On Thursday, Delhi had reported just two deaths and 130 new coronavirus cases.

On February 9, Delhi reported zero Covid-19 fatality after nine months.

Delhi recorded below 100 single-day Covid-19 cases several times this year. It dropped to the lowest daily cases of 94 earlier this week on Tuesday. This low in daily new cases of coronavirus was recorded after nine months. Before that, 96 single-day cases were also reported in January, which was the first lowest in nine months.
