Kerala CM to write to Centre requesting more Covid-19 vaccines

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Thursday that his government will request the Centre to provide more Covid-19 vaccines to Kerala due to the continuous spike in daily cases there.

“Kerala government will request the Centre to provide more vaccines considering the Covid-19 situation in the state” ANI reported quoting Vijayan.

State health minister K Shailaja had earlier written a letter to Union health and family welfare minister Harsh Vardhan on February 21, according to a news agency. Shailaja had asked for more vaccines to be provided before the state starts inoculating the third priority group - those over 50 years of age and above.

'125-year-old Congress defeated': Arvind Kejriwal on AAP's performance in Gujarat civic polls

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said he will visit Gujarat on February 26, after his party's stunning performance in civic polls. The AAP won 27 seats in Surat in its first outing. The BJP secured 93 out of the 120 seats in Surat, while Congress and other parties did not win any seats.

"AAP has performed very well in the local body polls in Gujarat. I thank the people of Gujarat and especially of Surat. 125 years-old Congress party has been defeated and a new party - the AAP is given responsibility as the main opposition party. Our every candidate will work with honesty," the Delhi chief minister said.

"I will be visiting Surat on February 26 to thank the people for helping Aam Aadmi Party emerge as the main opposition party in Gujarat local body polls and rejecting Congress," Kejriwal added.

Covid spreading faster in Maharashtra's Amravati

Since the beginning of this month, Amravati district of Maharashtra has recorded alarming jumps in daily new coronavirus cases, becoming a new Covid-19 hotspot in the state. Fresh curbs were also imposed in the district in the wake of the rising number of cases. But, why is Amravati witnessing the maximum number of coronavirus cases? Dr Subhash Salunke, technical adviser to the Maharashtra Health Department spoke at length about his visit to the new hotspot.

Speaking to media, Dr Subhash Salunke said he recently visited both Amravati and Achalpur city in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

Dr Salunke explained the three factors responsible for faster spread of coronavirus in the Vidarbha region -- the first factor is the virus, its structure, mutations and its capacity of transmission; the second factor is the person who gets infected and transmits it to others and third is the environment and weather.

Cracks in the open, Raje attends BJP core panel meeting

The core committee of the Rajasthan BJP met in Jaipur Tuesday, days after MLAs known to be loyal to former chief minister Vasundhara Raje wrote to the party leadership alleging bias in the Assembly proceedings and claiming that several senior legislators were being ignored.

Raje, who has skipped several party programmes in recent times, joined the meeting held at the BJP headquarters. She arrived when the meeting, that lasted more than three hours, had begun.

BJP national general secretary and Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh, who was present at the meeting, later said everyone had expressed their happiness at the leadership of state president Satish Poonia. He also denied any knowledge of the letter by Raje's supporters.
