Taking a jibe at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) ahead of West Bengal assembly elections, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said Trinamool puts politics above people and this is the reason the party doesn't allow Centre's schemes to be implemented in the state.

Addressing the public in Balurghat, the defence minister said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not run the government on the basis of caste and religion but on the basis of justice and humanity. "We will not run govt on basis of caste and religion but on basis of justice and humanity. 'Justice to all, appeasement of none' will be our principle. TMC has put politics above people, it's the reason they don't allow the implementation of Centre's schemes in the state," Singh said.

The defence minister spoke in Bengali to connect with the people and said no 'dadagiri' (hooliganism) will be allowed in Bengal.

COVID: New travel regulations for passengers coming to Delhi

Delhi on Thursday (February 25) reported 220 new COVID-19 cases, the highest number of single-day rise in February. Although, no deaths were registered. This was the fourth time the single-day fatality count has stood nil in this month. According to official data, over 3.46 lakh beneficiaries have received the COVID-19 vaccine in Delhi to date, since the commencement of the vaccination drive in January. But as cases are surging in states like Maharashtra and Punjab, as a precautionary measure, the Delhi government has implemented new travel rules for passengers coming to Delhi from Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. They have to furnish a negative RT-PCR test report not older than 72 hours.

Maharashtra Lockdown: Curfew imposed in Yavatmal District from Saturday till Monday

Taking preventive measures against the rising cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra, the Yavatmal district administration on Friday announced a curfew in the district from Saturday 5 PM till Monday 9 AM. Issuing an order, the district administration, however, said that the essential services across the district will continue during the curfew.

"Curfew imposed in Yavatmal district from 5 PM on Saturday to 9 AM on Monday, essential services will continue during this curfew", M Devender Singh, Collector, Yavatmal said.

The development comes as Maharashtra on Wednesday witnessed a significant rise in coronavirus cases, with more than 8,000 new infections coming to light in a single day after a gap of over four months. With this, the state took its total infection count to 21,21,119. It had reported 8,142 cases on October 21 last year, after which the numbers had declined.

While you might think you have seen enough versions the viral 'pawri ho rahi hai' trend, it has now made an entry into poll-bound West Bengal with BJP national president JP Nadda giving the catchphrase his own spin during an election rally in the state.

BJP chief JP Nadda on Friday, while addressing a rally, used the 'pawri ho rahi hai' meme's catchphrase to push the saffron party's promise of 'parivartan'.

"Yeh Bengal ki prabuddh janta hai, yeh hum sab hai, aur Bengal main parivartan ki tayyari ho rahi hai [This is the enlightened public of Bengal, this is us, and people are getting ready for a change in Bengal]," Nadda said referring to the #PawriHoRahiHai trend in his speech.

President's Rule imposed in Puducherry, Assembly suspended till end of term

Days after the V Narayanasamy-led Congress government lost its majority, President's Rule was imposed in Puducherry on Thursday.

The notification, signed by President Ram Nath Kovind, said the decision was taken after the president received a report from the administrator of the Union Territory of Puducherry on February 22.

It said after considering the report and other information received by him, the president was satisfied that a situation had arisen in which the administration of the Union Territory of Puducherry could not carry on in accordance with the provisions of the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963 (20 of 1963).
