'Beti Paraya Dhan Hoti Hai': Babul Supriyo's Dig at Mamata Backfires

in DNDQuick

Union Minister Babul Supriyo is facing flak after he took a dig at TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee’s campaign ‘Daughter of Bengal’ slogan stating, ‘beti paraya dhan hoti hai” (a daughter is someone else’s property). The tweet was later deleted.

Sharing a meme posted by BJP’s Asansol unit, the post had an image of Mamata Banerjee with mic with “I am the daughter of Bengal” written in Hindi and Union home minister Amit Shah responding with “Beti paraya dhan hoti hain, iss bar vidaa kar denge…”(A daughter is someone else’s property, will send her off this time).”

Trinamool Congress leaders slammed Supriyo for the posts. “Wow! This is what a Union minister is! Shame, Shame!” TMC state unit spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya said. State Minister of Women and Child Development, Dr Shashi Panja criticised the BJP leader for endorsing chauvinist views and said she is shocked to see “how deep and wide sexism runs” in leaders of the saffron party.

Congress, Left silent but ISF claims 30 seats in its kitty for Bengal polls

in DNDQuick

The battle for Bengal is heating up with the TMC and the BJP going head-to-head in an no-holds-barred fight against each other. The stakes are high. Not to be left behind, the Congress-Left alliance also decided to make its presence known with a massive rally in Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground on Sunday.

Joining the Congress-Left combine on stage was new ally and the latest entrant in Bengal politics -- the Indian Secular Front (ISF).

With the Election Commission announcing dates for the soon-to-be-held Bengal assembly elections, the dynamics of the alliance are the centre of massive speculations. With almost a month left for the Bengal polls, the Left, Congress and ISF have still not publicly declared their seat-sharing arrangement.

Akhadas, seers oppose Uttarakhand govt’s fresh Mahakumbh SoP on Covid-19

in DNDQuick

The latest standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by the Uttarakhand government’s disaster management department have not gone down well with Akhadas, seers, local priests and the trader fraternity.

The Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad has termed the restrictions as 'stern measures'. The SOPs include mandatory registration at government portals, negative Covid-19 report (not more than 72 hours old), e-pass allocation for pilgrims, among others. Stern legal action against violators will be initiated under the Disaster Management Act and Covid-19 regulations, as per the SOPs.

Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri questioned the necessity of bringing in such measures for the Haridwar Mahakumbh when no such SoPs and restrictions were in place during the Magh Mela in Prayagraj and at Vrindavan fair.
