More than 500 fresh Covid cases in Delhi, highest daily count since January 1

In the last 24 hours, Delhi has reported more than 500 fresh Covid-19 cases, three deaths and 319 recoveries. With 536 cases, this is the highest daily count the national capital has seen since January 1.

The number of active cases is now at 2,702, which is the highest it has been since January 15.

Delhi's cumulative case count stands at 6,45,025. The city's death toll is nearing 11,000 at 10,948.

The positivity rate, which is the percentage of coronavirus tests conducted that are positive, has now risen to 0.66%. On Monday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had said that the Covid-19 situation in Delhi is under control as long as the positivity rate remains below one per cent.

Bengal polls: BJP star campaigner Paayel Sarkar embarks on door-to-door campaign

With the West Bengal assembly elections round the corner, star candidates of all political parties are leaving no stone unturned in reaching out to the voters.

For the last two days, Bengali film actor Paayel Sarkar, the BJP candidate from the Behala (East) constituency, is busy with a door-to-door campaign, right from houses and complexes to fruit and vegetable vendors to garner support for her.

Donning different hats from an actor to a politician has not been difficult for Paayel Sarkar.

"It is a different experience. If I work with people, they will like me. There is a similarity in both movies and politics. People already know me and are opening up and sharing information with me," said Paayel Sarkar while campaigning in the Haridevpur area on Wednesday morning.

Congress slams Centre, AAP for amendments of NCTD Act

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) on Wednesday protested at Jantar Mantar against the Centre’s proposed amendment of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCTD) Act, 1991.

The DPCC slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government for the proposed amendment of the NCTD Act and lamented at the AAP for keeping mum from the last two months.

Anil Chaudhary, president DPCC, said: “Kejriwal-led AAP government is acting on behest of the BJP. It has been more than two months that the Centre proposed the amendment of the NCTD Act, 1991 but Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has maintained silence over that.”

Fadnavis reveals Sachin Waze's 'Shiv Sena' link; New Commissioner of Police Admits Turmoil in Force

After taking over as new Mumbai Police Commissioner from Param Bir Singh, Hemant Nagrale on Wednesday admitted that police in the financial capital is undergoing “turmoil”. He refused to comment on the ongoing investigation but promised to “glory and pride of Mumbai Police”.

“At present, the Mumbai Police is undergoing turmoil due to some bad instances that have occurred. I won’t comment on the ongoing investigation. We will regain the glory and pride of Mumbai Police,” he said at a press conference.

Nagrale’s appointment comes as the case of recovery of gelatin sticks near Ambani’s residence turned murkier with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) claiming there were “other players” who had been allegedly instructing arrested policeman Sachin Waze. NIA sources said the case had virtually been cracked and soon the “entire conspiracy” behind would be unravelled.

The veteran former bureaucrat was earlier made the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the PMO on August 30, 2019, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the request of his Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra to be relieved from the post.
