Modi govt suppressing non-BJP states via Governors: Shiv Sena hits out at Centre over NCT Act

in DNDQuick

Upping its ante on the BJP over the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021, Shiv Sena on Thursday accused the saffron party of suppressing "non-BJP states" through the office of the Governor.

In an editorial in its mouthpiece Saamana, Sena said the Narendra Modi government had decided to stifle democracy and freedom in the country.

"Wherever the BJP is not in power, the Modi government has decided upon a policy to suppress the state government through the office of the Governor. Now, the Centre has brought the GNCTD Bill and has forcibly got it passed. This has nullified the authority of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister of Delhi, and the entire Cabinet," the editorial said.

"Delhi is a Union Territory, so all the powers are with the Lieutenant Governor. The Lieutenant Governor does not leave a single chance to torture the Chief Minister elected by the people. Assembly and majority are not valued. Now, with the new legislation, the LG has been made the 'government' of Delhi," the editorial said.

Tamil Nadu Elections: OPS bats for Sasikala

in DNDQuick

The man who launched the 'Dharmayudham' (holy war) against VK Sasikala in February 2017 has embraced peace. In a U-turn from his earlier revolt against Jayalalithaa's aide, O Panneerselvam now says Sasikala's return to the AIADMK can be considered, even though chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami has categorically ruled it out.

In an interview to a Tamil news channel, OPS said, "She spent four years in prison. She was with and served Amma (Jayalalithaa) for 32 years. Just on humane consideration, I think if she accepts the present set-up of the party under a chief coordinator and his deputy, we could consider her return.''

That is not all. The Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister also denied that he had ever accused Sasikala of having links with Jayalalithaa's death. In the interview, he claimed that he had asked for an inquiry so that Sasikala's name could be cleared.
