India expects biggest share of US doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, says a Report

India expects to secure the biggest chunk of the 60 million AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine doses that the United States will share globally, two Indian government sources told Reuters, as New Delhi battles a devastating surge in infections.

On Monday, the White House said 10 million doses could be cleared for export "in coming weeks" and the rest by June. It has not revealed potential beneficiaries, but the sources said India could gain the most.

"The wheels of diplomacy and appeals from WHO and top public health experts changed their thinking and now we have the US ready to send vaccines," said one of the sources, an aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

No lockdown in Kerala, stricter curbs to be imposed: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that a lockdown will not be announced in the state instead stricter restrictions will be enforced to curb the spread of COVID-19. 

Vijayan made the announcement at a press comference after a 2-hour meeting with all parties and stated that it was a common opinion to not impose a lockdown.

"In the all-party meeting today, the common opinion was that Kerala should not go into a complete lock down. But all parties suggested that strict restrictions should be enforced in the state to curb the spread of COVID-19," Vijayan was quoted as saying by a news agency.

Maharashtra: COVID-19 cases, deaths come down as stricter restrictions keep people indoors

The effect of imposing strict restrictions like lockdown has started to be visible in entire Maharashtra. The coronavirus graph of the state is slowly going down. Speaking of the last 24 hours, 48,700 new cases were found here. The state recorded 524 deaths, down from the highest 832 on Sunday,Dropping below the 50,000 mark in over a fortnight, from the record high of 68,631 (April 18), the daily case tally was 48,700, taking the cumulative total to 43,43,727.

At the same time, 71,736 patients were discharged from the hospital after winning the battle against the virus in one day. Statistics of the Ministry of Health show that a total of 43,43,727 patients have been found so far in Maharashtra. Out of this, 36,1,796 patients have been cured, while 65,284 people have died. And 6,74,770 patients are still undergoing treatment in hospital and home quarantine.

Delhi HC wants Covid beds for itself, Delhi govt asks for 100 rooms at 5-star Ashoka

Delhiites may be scrambling for beds and oxygen amid the deadly surge of Covid cases, but judges and officials of the Delhi High Court won’t have to, with 100 rooms being reserved for them in the Ashoka Hotel.

The move comes after a “request” was received from the Delhi High Court “for setting up of CHC facility for the Hon’ble Justices and other judicial officers of Delhi High Court and their families”.

So, the Delhi government decided to requisition 100 rooms at the hotel to set up a Covid Health Centre for judges and judicial officers of the Delhi HC and their families.

WhatsApp group admin not responsible for objectionable post by a different member, says Bombay HC

The WhatsApp group administrator will not be held criminally liable after an objectionable post by a different member of the group, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has held and quashed a case of sexual harassment lodged against a 33-year-old man.

The order was passed last month and a copy of it was made available on April 22.

A Division Bench headed by Justice Z.A. Haq and A.B. Borkar noted that an administrator of a WhatsApp group has only limited powers of adding or deleting members to the group and does not have the power to regulate or censor the content posted in the group.
