Mucormycosis or black fungus as it is known, which mainly affects those recovering from COVID, has been declared an epidemic in Rajasthan, officials said as per a news agency.
As of now, the state has around 100 black fungus patients and a separate ward is set up at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur to treat them.
The decision to classify it as an epidemic comes under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020, said a notification issued by the state's Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora.
He said this was to make sure that there was an integrated and coordinated treatment of black fungus and COVID.
