Supreme Court issues yet another notice to makers of 'Mirzapur'

After taking cognizance of a plea, the Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the makers -- director and producer -- of web series 'Mirzapur' seeking a reply. The plea was filed by an advocate of the apex court who also happens to be a native of the district. The date for the hearing is set for March 8.

Earlier, a Mirzapur resident had filed a complaint against the web series Mirzapur and Amazon Prime for maligning the image of his native place in Uttar Pradesh.

"Mirzapur has rich cultural value, but in 2018 Excel Entertainment has launched a web series named Mirzapur of 9 episodes in which they have shown Mirzapur a city of goons and adulteresses," said the plea.

Kangana Ranaut lashes out at Taapsee Pannu, calls her 'B grade, freeloader, burden on nation'

Actor Kangana Ranaut has attacked actor Taapsee Pannu, who in a recent tweet made an indirect comment about the social media outcry that Rihanna's comment on the farmers' protests evoked. Taapsee seemingly commented on Rihanna's tweet, and the 'India against propaganda' social media hashtag that trended hours later.

Kangana, in her response to Taapsee, described her a 'B-grade' actor, and a 'freeloader'. Kangana on Wednesday was involved in another Twitter back-and-forth with singer Diljit Dosanjh, who supported Rihanna publicly.

"B grade logon ki B grade thinking (B grade people have a B grade mentality), one should stand up for one’s faith motherland and family, yehi Karm hai yehi Dharm bhi hai (this is our duty) .... free fund ka sirf khane wale mat bano (don't be a freeloader)... iss desh ka bojh (don't be a burden on this country)... that’s why I call them B grade ... ignore them free loaders ..."

Trade experts on ‘No OTT release’ clause: ‘Top actors can do that. Akshay, Aamir or Salman can dictate terms’

A lot has changed in the film world following the COVID-19 pandemic, including the filming
style and choice of the release platform. Considering everyone was in a state of lockdown last
year, not many films were shot and whichever were ready took the OTT route for release.
However, things have started to open up and most of the artists would prefer to unveil their films
theatrically, especially if the subject is for a cinema experience. Pinkvilla recently reported that
Ayushmann Khurrana has included a ‘NO OTT’ clause for Abhishek Kapoor’s Chandigarh Kare
Aashiqui. Reportedly, a lot more stars are following suit.
We reached out to some key stakeholders and cinema experts to understand their point of view
on the addition of this new clause in a star’s contract, and how it benefits the industry. Film
analyst and distributor Raj Bansal says that this move will help the actors and theatres, both. “Let
me explain this with an example. Say an actor A has worked for producer B for a certain amount.
When he signed the contract and heard the story, he was looking at it as a 200 crore film at the
box-office. But when the film is ready, because of some short gains the producer decides to sell
it to an OTT platform. That’s when the actor feels cheated. If the film does well at the box-
office, his remuneration too increases for the next film. See, however, good a certain film is, you
don’t have any barometer to decide how big a hit it is if released on an OTT platform and that is
a problem for an actor. They are putting this clause to ensure their revenue and reputation,” says
Bansal.
