Dharmendra says he got ready thrice to attend Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral, but couldn’t

 

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday after suffering multiple organ failure. Her demise had India mourning and paying tribute to the 92-year-old singer. There were many including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Javed Akhtar, Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan, Siddharth Roy Kapur and others. But veteran actor Dharmendra says he couldn't muster the courage to attend the funeral of India's 'Nightingale'.

Dharmendra, in a recent interview with The Times of India, shared that he got ready to go for Mangeshkar's funeral thrice, but he couldn't step out of his house as he "didn't want to see her leaving us." He was feeling "uneasy and uncomfortable" ever since he heard the news of her death.

Taking to Instagram, Amitabh posted the clip from an award function, in which Amitabh lauded Lata and asserted that she is surely the ‘voice of the millennium’.

Lata Mangeshkar cremated in Mumbai with state honours, PM at ceremony

 

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died on Sunday after weeks of hospitalisation, was cremated with full state honours at Mumbai's iconic Shivaji Park this evening bringing an end to a splendid and decorated career spanning seven decades. She was 92.

Just before the last rites, the national flag in which the body was draped, was handed over to the family members. Lata Mangeshkar's brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar lit the funeral pyre of the singing legend.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Shivaji Park to pay his last respects to the singer and met the Mangeshkar family members and consoled them. He left the venue before the funeral.
