Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu sued by producer Upasana Singh over Punjabi film

Film producer Upasana Singh on Thursday moved a local court against Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu, accusing her of not honouring an agreement signed for the promotion of a Punjabi movie. Singh filed a civil suit in the Chandigarh district court, seeking damages for the alleged breach of contract by Sandhu, who played the lead in her Bai Ji Kuttange.

"I gave Harnaaz a chance to act in the movie Bai Ji Kuttange. Not only this, I also made Yaara Diyan Poo Baran in which Harnaaz is the heroine as well," she told reporters outside the court.

Aamir Khan’s look and character in Laal Singh Chaddha gets Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s approval

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is all set for release. The film, an official adaptation of Forrest Gump, sees Aamir essay a Sikh character for the first time in his career. While Aamir’s bearded and turbaned look in the film has created buzz among the fans, it has also won the approval of Sikh religious body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The film, particularly Laal’s life growing up, is set in Punjab. Recently, the producers held a special screening of the film for the SGPC. Talking about how they received the film, Aamir Khan, who is also producing the film, says, “I was very touched with the reaction of the members of the SGPC. I am so glad that our film touched their hearts so deeply.”

Shamshera box office collection Day 13: Shutter down for Ranbir Kapoor's film

Ranbir Kapoor's grand comeback to the big screen was supposed to be a superhit. The actor returned to films after four years with Shamshera, which hit the theatres on July 22. Ranbir plays a double role in this action drama about an enslaved tribe fighting for freedom. Also starring Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor, Shamshera is having a hard time surviving in the theatres. The film released with a low opening, and its numbers keep dissapointing each day.

Malayalam filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan slams National Film Awards

Malayalam filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has lashed out at the National Film Awards, calling it a “cruel joke". Speaking at the Film Societies of India’s John Abraham memorial award function, the national award winning director said that earlier the jury of these awards consisted of well-known film directors, theatre artists and critics, but now random people take decisions.

“Some random person becomes the chairman of the jury that gives awards to some people. No one should ask why they got the awards as everyone knows the exact reason. All I have to say is that these tendencies are unjust, ” the veteran filmmaker was quoted as saying by Manorama.

Gopalakrishnan added that most of the jury members were admirers of Bollywood movies and put little effort into giving awards to deserving films.

Actress Ketki Dave's husband Rasik Dave dies at 65, succumbs to kidney ailment

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame actress Ketki Dave's husband and Gujarati star Rasik Dave died on July 29, 2022. He was battling a kidney ailment for long, suggest reports. According to ETimes, he was on dialysis for the last two years. Rasik Bhai was 65. 

The funeral is expected to take place today. He is survived by his wife Ketki Dave and two children - a son and daughter respectively. Rasik also featured in several TV shows and films such as Byomkesh Bakshi (1993), CID, Mahabharat and EK Mahal Ho Sapno Ka among others.
