Simon Doull has made a shocking reveal and said that he stayed without food for many days after his comments on Babar Azam. Before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Doull was in Pakistan for commentary duties during the Pakistan Super League (PSL). During the tournament, Dull had criticised the Peshawar Zalmi captain for slowing down whenever he reaches close to a century.
"Rather than putting the team first... the last little while, that's all that been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, still, so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first," Doull said.
His comments went viral in no time and also reached the Pakistan captain as he was seen having a chat with Doull a few days later. Doull, who is now in India, recalled his time in Pakistan and shared the ordeal he faced there.
"Living in Pakistan is like living in jail. I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me. And I stayed without food for many days. Even I was mentally tortured, but by the grace of God, I somehow escaped," Doull has told Geo News. Doull also faced hatred on different social media platforms.
Doull is a noted commentator and one of the most recognised voices in the world. The former New Zealand pacer was recently in the news for commenting on Virat Kohli's below-par strike rate. "From 42 to 50, he took 10 balls. He is concerned about his personal milestones. I don’t think there’s room for that in this game anymore," he said during Royal Challengers Bangalore's home game against Lucknow Super Giants.
Doull is in India for IPL and will stay here even as Pakistan are set to host New Zealand in 3 T20Is and 5 ODIs from April 14 to May 7.
