Umran Malik is plying his trade for Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and is troubling the batsmen with his sheer pace. Umran, who first hogged the limelight with his express pace right-arm pace during the 2nd half of IPL 2021, is the quickest pacer in the country at the moment and this has seen him climb the ladder pretty quickly.
He stayed with Team India as a net bowler for T20 World Cup after IPL 2021 and a couple of months later, he made his debut for India A. Umran earned his maiden India call-up for the home series against South Africa in June and made his debut against Ireland later that month.
After missing out on a spot in the 2022 T20 WC squad, Umran is now playing for his state team. Last week, he troubled the Maharashtra batsmen with sheer pace and took a four-for against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. The video of his spell is now making rounds. The batsmen can be seen visibly troubled by the express pace and a few of them didn't have any clue on how to play the delivery.
Umran bowled a spell of 4-0-27-4. He scalps included Ruturaj Gaikwad, Pavan Shah, Divyang Hinganekar and Shamshuzama Kasi. Despite his heroics, Jammu and Kashmir couldn't defend a target of 176 and lost in the final over.
Umran has called 2 wickets in as many matches since that fixture. With 1 win from 5 matches, Jammu and Kashmir are placed at the 6th spot in the points table and are out of contention for a place in the next round. Maharashtra won 3 of their 5 league stage matches.
Karnataka, Haryana and Services have won 4 matches each and are placed at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd spot, respectively.
