Kolkata Knight Riders lost opener Ajinkya Rahane in the fifth over as Tymal Mills sent the right-handed batter back to the hut and this ended the 16-run opening partnership. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played knocks of 52 and 38 respectively as Mumbai Indians posted 161/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 14th game of IPL 2022 season at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Kieron Pollard also chipped in with a quickfire knock of 22 runs off just 5 balls. For KKR, Pat Cummins returned with two wickets.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and it was due to Suryakumar Yadav and Pollard that Mumbai Indians posted a score of more than the 160-run mark. Dewald Brevis impressed one and all as he scored a quickfire 29 but his innings was cut short by Varun Chakravarthy in the 8th over of the innings. Soon after Ishan Kishan was sent back to the hut by Pat Cummins. Kolkata Knight Riders opening bowlers Umesh Yadav and Rasikh Salam had kept it tidy for the Shreyas Iyer-led side after the skipper opted to bowl against Mumbai Indians and this brought about the dismissal of Rohit Sharma.
