The Maharashtra government is mulling a vital decision related to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the state, sources told India Today. The restriction on the CBI probe is expected to be lifted by Eknath Shinde Devendra Fadnavis government soon, sources said.
The previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government had imposed restrictions on the CBI, which required the central agency to seek the state government's consent to initiate a probe.
The restriction is expected to be lifted soon by the new government in a cabinet meeting, sources said.
Maharashtra is among several states that have withdrawn general consent for CBI operations within its territory.
When a general consent is withdrawn, the CBI needs to seek case-wise consent for investigation from the concerned state government. If specific consent is not granted, the CBI officials will not have the power of police personnel when they enter that state.
