Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took a dig at the BJP on Wednesday, stating that whenever they come to power, they shut down schemes implemented by the Congress government. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should guarantee that the Congress government's schemes will not be discontinued if the BJP comes to power in the state.
Addressing a public function in Jaipur, he further stated that PM Modi can campaign in Rajasthan only if he promises not to discontinue any current schemes.
"I would like to request Prime Minister Modi Ji that the next time he visits, considering he is now giving guarantees, he should guarantee that the schemes we have initiated will not be terminated if a (BJP) government is formed," Gehlot said.
The Chief Minister mentioned several schemes, such as the refinery scheme and the metro, which were shut down by the BJP's Vasundhara Raje government.
Gehlot further referred to the Prime Minister as an "ustad" (master) of marketing. "Marketing professionals are often called gurus. Whether he is truly a guru or not, PM Modi is undoubtedly a guru. He is a marketing guru throughout the country. You are familiar with his language, style, and way of speaking," Gehlot said.
Prime Minister Modi held a political rally on Monday in Jaipur.
Gehlot also criticised Vice President Jagdeep Dhankad for "repeatedly visiting Rajasthan." He stated, "In this very month, Dhankad has visited Rajasthan five times. When Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was the Vice President, I warmly welcomed him at the Chief Minister's residence. However, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankad keeps returning to Rajasthan."
Rajasthan is gearing up for the upcoming state assembly elections later this year.
