Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Raises Kashmir Issue at UN General Assembly

"Another development that will pave the way for regional peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia will be the establishment of a just and lasting peace in Kashmir through dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan," stated Erdogan.

In his address, Erdogan added that Turkey would continue supporting the steps needed to ensure regional peace and stability returns in South Asia.

Erdogan's statement comes weeks after he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi. During this bilateral meeting, both Modi and Erdogan also discussed ways to strengthen trade and infrastructure between Ankara and New Delhi.

During their meeting, Turkey also backed India for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council. The Turkish president pushed for a rotational seat for the remaining 15 members of the Security Council.

"Those 20 (5+15) should be permanent members of the UNSC in rotation. But as you know, the world is bigger than five. When we say the world is larger than five, what we mean is that it's not only about the US, UK, France, China and Russia," stated Erdogan.

UNGA 78 kicked off with Brazillian President Lula da Silva's addresses where he expressed that "Brazil is Back!". Lula da Silva was followed up by US President Joe Biden who called on climate change and the dangers of AI. Furthermore, Biden also called on world leaders to extend their full support to Ukraine during their war with Russia.
