NewDelhi: Former petroleum minister and senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been elected as interim prime minister of Pakistan. Pakistani media said that the decision was taken during the party's consultative meeting on Saturday. Abbasi will run the government as interim prime minister until Nawaz Sharif's brother Shahbaz is elected as member of parliament.

The ruling party of deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met on Saturday to choose the next prime minister, a day after country’s Supreme Court removed the Premier from office after finding that he and his family concealed their assets.
