Seeking Admission: Time To Look Beyond Colleges In DU

New Delhi: With nearly two lakh students having applied for 55,000 seats in Delhi University, it’s obvious that everybody was not going to make it. Even students 90 per cent marks are not sure of getting admission into a course of their choice. “They should positively look for an option beyond DU,” says Nitin Yadav, who runs a tutorial service in Gurgaon and acts as an admission counsellor.

“There is no doubt that Delhi University has always been the most preferred educational centre, students from around the country work hard to secure a seat in a DU college. But considering past few years cut-off lists, even students scoring 90% give up all hope to get admission in a reputed college of Delhi University. But they should not feel disheartened,” says Yadav.
“In fact, rather than wasting time in the expectation of the same, students should not lose hope and apply for other good public universities or even private colleges. After all, securing admission in any other reputed university is much easier than securing a seat in a top DU college,” adds RK Kanth, who runs a tutorial service in trans-Yamuna.
There are many reputed colleges in Delhi and NCR for students who do not get through Delhi University. There are government universities like Jamia Millia Islamia, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and Ambedkar University of Delhi. The the first is a Central university the other two are run by state government.
Shivam Gupta who passed his 12th board exams from ARSD Senior Secondary School, Rouse Avenue near ITO aspires to pursue Bachelors of Commerce. “I want to do B Com from University of Delhi but I have scored 79 percent so I am little worried. I am also looking forward to other options like colleges affiliated from from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, but my first preference will be DU only.” says Shivam.
“I want to be a Corporate Lawyer and I have given Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) but as a last resort I have kept Delhi University as an option as I have scored 96 percent so getting one of the DU Colleges will not be a big deal,” says Yash Verma from DPSG Gurgaon.
If you miss a seat in the government universities, there are many private universities which can come to rescue. Though their degrees are at par with government universities, their fee is on the higher side.
Manish Phalswal from Mata Nand Kaur Sr. Sec School,  Najafgarh, says “I want to take admission in DU as all my friends are going there but my percentage is not that much so my parents are planning to send me to Amity University, Gurgaon and I think that is also fine, although the fee is quite high but still I am happy.”
The private university options include Shiv Nadar University, Jagan Nath University, Amity University, North Cap University, Galgotias University and many more.
