Rahul Reaches MP Through Rajasthan, Taken Into Custody

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh remained tense on Thursday as Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi entered the state through Rajasthan to meet the families of the farmers. He was, later, taken into custody by the police in Neemuch district.

In the meanwhile Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh admitted that police firing killed farmers during their agitation in Mandsaur district on Tuesday. Singh clarified that his earlier comment was based on the initial report. He said, even officers were not aware of the facts at that time.

The state government also transferred collector Swatantra Kumar Singh and SP OP Tripathi of the violence hit Mandsaur district. Collectors of adjoining Neemuch and Ratlam districts have also been changed. Meanwhile, the situation in Mandsour district was by and large peaceful. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district. Heavy security deployment was made in entire Mandsaur. Police have taken over 60 persons in custody in connection with violent incidents. Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has said, the problem in the state arose due to the wrong policies of the previous Congress Government. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Naidu accused the Congress of instigating and politicising the farmers' stir in Madhya Pradesh.

Naidu also dismissed the Congress' demand that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan step down from his post. He described Chouhan as the most farmer-friendly Chief minister and listed the welfare measures taken by the BJP-led Centre and state government.
