
New Delhi: The Election Commission has set the ball rolling for the election of the successor of President Pranab Mukherjee. Presidential election will be held on July 17. Announcing the schedule, Chief Election Commissioner NasimZaidi said, nomination will begin from June 14 with 28th being the last date. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on 29th. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is the first of July. Counting will take place on 20th of July, if required.
Zaidi said, Commission is taking all necessary measures to ensure free and fair poll. Polling will be held in RajyaSabha, LokSabha and premises of state assemblies. The election will be conducted by secret ballot. The term of President Pranab Mukherjee is ending on 24th of July. President is elected by an electoral college comprising elected members of LokSabha, RajyaSabha and state legislative assemblies. It also includes assemblies of Delhi and Puducherry.
