New Delhi: India registered anemphatic victory over neighbour Pakistan in the Champions' Trophy match at Birmingham on Sunday. The green jerseys surrendered meekly at their much anticipated encounter with arch rivals India with a facile performance. They were bowled out for a paltry at 164 in 33.4 overs, in reply to India's mammoth 319/3 in 48 overs. All the Indian batsmen fired as the defending champions piled up a huge total. AllrounderHardikPandya smashed three sixes at the start of the last over as India let rip against rival Pakistan to reach 319-3 from 48 overs in Group B of the Champions Trophy on Sunday.
India hit 72 crucial runs in the last four overs, with Pandya ending on 20 off six deliveries. Most of those came during a costly 23-run last over for ImadWasim (0-66), making it an even bigger challenge for Pakistan's unproven batting lineup. Pakistan's target at the start of its innings was 324 in 48 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method, but this became 289 in 41 overs after play was again interrupted by rain.
India's top four registered fifties and the Man of the Match went to Yuvraj Singh for a blistering knock of 53 off just 32 deliveries. Rohit Sharma top-scored for India with 119-ball 91-run knock while skipper ViratKohli remained unbeaten on 81 off 68 balls. With the ball, UmeshYadav led from the front scalping three wickets while HardikPandya and RavindraJadeja took two apiece. However, it was Bhuvaneshwar Kumar who gave the first break putting Pakistan on the defensive right from the beginning.
