New Delhi: The Congress has assailed the BJP governments in the Centre and states over their alleged inaction in checking the violent protests by fringe groups against the release of Sanjay LeelaBhansali's "Padmaavat".

Party spokesperson PriyankaChaturvedi also accused the BJP of trying to play politics on the issue, alleging that it had failed to maintain law and order in the states ruled by it.

She accused the BJP governments at the Centre and states of failing to check the violent protests against the film and maintaining silence over the issue.

Strongly condemning the attack on a school bus in Gurgaon, she said it was an example of the ManoharLalKhattar-led BJP government's failure to maintain law and order in Haryana.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had earlier alleged that the ruling party's use of "hatred and violence" was setting the country on fire.

Gandhi, while condemning the violence against children by the mobs, said there was no bigger cause to justify violence against children.

Congress's communications in-charge RandeepSurjewala had termed the attack as "unacceptable" and "reprehensible" that endangered the lives of children.
