Bomb Disposal Squad Member And Chowkidar Killed In Blast Inside Police Station In Jharkhand

New Delhi: Two persons including a chowkidar and a member of explosive disposal team were killed and three others injured in a bomb blast, which took place in the premises of the Sariya police station of Giridih district in Jharkhand today afternoon.

The Officer in-Charge, SonuChowdhury, however, had a narrow escape. The deceased were identified as the disposal wing member, Ashfaq Qureshi and the Chowkidar, Mahendra Turi, police said.

The incident took place at around 1 pm, when the members of the Giridih based disposal team, along with a chowkidar was trying to collect all the explosive materials including gelatins and other seizures from the strong room, situated within the same PS building. Meanwhile, one of the bombs exploded killing two of them team members on the spot.

The explosion was so heavy that the office of the PS in-charge and few other nearby buildings were partially damaged, the eyewitnesses said. Soon after getting information, a team of senior district authorities, comprising Deputy Commissioner, Umashankar Singh, and Superintendent of Police, AB Variar, visited the site of the incident and looked into the matter.

“We are yet to ascertain actual reason behind the incident, but as per the available information the incident took place while the bomb disposal team was trying to collect the seizures including the explosive materials like bombs, gelatins etc.,” said Variar.
