Eight Indians Killed In UK Motorway Accident

New Delhi: According to The Guardian, eight people travelling in a minibus were killed and four taken to hospital after a collision between two lorries and their vehicle on the M1 near Newport Pagnell, Thames Valley police have said.

Six men and two women died at the scene and a woman, a man and a five-year-old girl were taken to hospital with serious injuries. All three remain in a life-threatening condition. Another woman was taken to hospital but her injuries are not believed to be critical. Police believe some of those travelling in the minibus were visiting the UK from India.

A report in Times of India said, The crash happened on Saturday morning at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire when a minibus carrying a group of Wipro IT professionals and their families collided with two lorries. Three of the Wipro employees were killed while a fourth, who is critically injured, is in a hospital. The driver of the bus, who died too, was an Indian.

Officers were called to the scene of the crash on the southbound carriageway at 3.15am on Saturday. The drivers of the two lorries were arrested at the scene.

A 31-year-old man from Worcestershire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and of drink driving. Police also arrested a 53-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both men remain in custody. The minibus was believed to have come from the Nottingham area.
