Serving colonel posted in Eastern Command arrested by CBI for bribery

New Delhi:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Colonel of Planning and Engineering Branch of Indian Army, Eastern Command, Kolkata and three others including Managing Director, Director and a representative of Private Company based at Pune in an alleged bribery of Rs 50000. The agency had registered a case against Colonel and three others u/s sections of IPC and various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

The CBI tracked the Director of the company who came from Pune to deliver the bribe to Colonel and nabbed him after the payment of bribe. CBI caught the Colonel and recovered the bribe from his residence. Searches was also conducted in four premises at Pune and two premises at Kolkata. The arrested accused persons were produced today before the Competent Court.

It is alleged that the Colonel had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from Managing Director of the company in connection with the supply of Power Pack Rock Splitters, which are used by various field formations of the Army. The Colonel was alleged to have already demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 50000 in February this year and as part of the second installment of the bribe, the Colonel was accepting Rs 50000 from the accused company.
