Rescue operations continued overnight after the collapse of what was known as the “hanging bridge” in Gujarat’s Morbi came crashing down on Sunday evening within seconds, killing dozens and sending shockwaves nationwide. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reached his home state earlier in the day to lay the foundation stone of Tata-Airbus aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara. Condoling the deaths, he sought urgent mobilisation of rescue teams.

The toll is said to have passed 100.
