The Rohit Shetty film, Cirkus, has taken a shocking opening at the box office in India. It was a no show for the comic caper nationwide, with shows even getting cancelled at multiple locations – right from single screens to multiplexes – due to no audience. According to early estimates, Cirkus is looking at an opening day figure in the range of Rs. 6.35 to 7.35 crores. The opening is half of what the film should have ideally done on its opening day.
The numbers are low all across the board, and even the loyal Rohit Shetty audience base didn’t come to give the film a chance at the ticket window. Places like Mumbai and Gujarat too had shows running with minimal audience on board. To add on to the woes of the film, the talk is also negative, which means, it’s more or less curtains down.
There is a festive period but this year has been a big learning of how no amount of holidays are helping bad films. Cirkus is also facing a wrath from Avatar, but irrespective of that, the writing is more or less on the way on the opening day itself. Cirkus might be the first Rohit Shetty flop in the longest time, however, given his brand value and command over commercial cinema, he is sure to make a comeback with Singham Again.
Ranveer Singh too is going through a rough phase and all eyes are now on Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani to break his streak of flops & disasters. The opening day biz of Rs. 7 crore has more or less sealed the fate of the film.
It’s Drishyam 2, which is keeping theatres engaged with Bhediya following it by a distance. As for An Action Hero, it is lagging behind, as a result, after a couple of weeks of good haul that came at the box office with over Rs. 100 crores each coming in, it’s going to be a lesser week with Rs. 50-60 crores coming in overall. Not that this number is bad either since 2022 has hardly seen such weeks. However, it has yet again been left to Drishyam 2 to do the heavy lifting.
At theatres, it is primarily Drishyam 2 collecting and Tuesday too brought in Rs. 2.53 crores. Of course, had the collections been in Rs. 3.25-3.50 crores range on Monday as well as Tuesday then it would have been a far better scenario as an entry into the Rs. 200 Crore Club would have been assured by Thursday itself, hence resulting in the feat been accomplished in three weeks flat. However that will happen now by Friday, what with Rs. 193.34 crores been gathered so far and few more crores yet to come.
Meanwhile, Bhediya stayed at the Rs. 1 crore* mark on Tuesday, though it should have ideally been around the Rs. 1.25-1.50 crores if it were to be a fair week. On Friday, the collections were Rs. 1.95 crores so the drop had to be minimal. However this was the case in the first week as well when collections dipped on Monday and now all hopes are on what best can it do for itself in the coming week due to lack of any new competition whatsoever. So far, the creature comedy has collected Rs. 54.31 crores* and it is slowly inching its way towards the Rs. 60 crores mark.
Meanwhile, An Action Hero will wrap up this week itself. The film has slowed down considerably on the weekdays after a low weekend and the numbers have stayed below the Rs. 1 crore mark on a daily basis. After a weekend of Rs. 5.99 crores, the film has collected only Rs. 1.50 crores* between Monday and Tuesday, hence resulting in the five day total been Rs. 7.49 crores*. The film may touch the Rs. 9 crores mark by the close of first week and then may be add Rs. 1-2 crore more before Avatar: The Way of Water arrives a week later.
